Sometimes, a piece comes along that does all the talking for you—and these red pants? They’ve got plenty to say.
When I started dreaming up this project, I knew I wanted a pair of statement pants—something bold, wearable, and full of personality. Not over-the-top, but definitely not blending into the background. I wanted that one item in my wardrobe that makes you do a double take.

THE PATTERN:
Enter: Simplicity 3036 by Mimi G. As soon as I saw it, I knew it was the one. The silhouette had just the right mix of comfort and cool, and it gave me room to play with the details.
THE FIT:
Now, let’s talk about these pin tucks. I’ve always been drawn to that clean, structured look. There’s something so satisfying about that crisp line running down the leg—it adds polish without making the pants feel too “dressy.” Think of it as low-key tailoring. It gives these casual pants a bit of edge, like they’re saying, “Yeah, I’m relaxed—but I came to impress.”
I used 4-way stretch fabric, so I sized down to a size 10, but probably could have went down a bit more because they are still a bit too large for my frame.
The elastic waist makes them easy to wear (and super forgiving). These pants are the kind of piece you throw on with a tank and sneakers for errands, or dress up with a button-down and slides for a casual night out. They flex with your mood.
THE INSTRUCTIONS:
Very simple and accurate. And you already know, every Mimi G pattern comes with a YouTube video tutorial makes it a double winner.
LIKES/DISLIKES:
No real dislikes, but I do need to work on my pocket technique with these. I’m not happy with how the pockets sit—the interior fabric is visible, which I’m pretty sure is something I did. When I remake them, fixing that will be a priority.
MAKE THEM AGAIN:
For sure! I want some in the color green, possibly a pink and maybe a dressier fabric, like a silky print with stripes or flowers.
So yeah—this ain’t even about me. It’s about these pants, doing exactly what I wanted them to do: turning heads, starting conversations, and bringing a little extra flavor to everyday style.
